11: RPG with well-supported one-shots

Like with many prompts, I must start by setting the definitions I’ll use. For “one-shots,” I’ll take some liberties and allow any game with single adventures. They may play over only one session but stand alone and are not locked into campaign play. Two systems stand out and tie for me.

Dungeon Crawl Classics has 100+ adventures available for any style and any level. The folks at Goodman Games make many, but other indie creators create many. The range of play is vast, and the perfect adventure awaits any niche desire.

Along with it stands Mothership by Tuesday Knight Games. Like DCC, it has several published under its banner but MANY more by independent creators. This game unleashed the community’s creativity.

If pressed to run a true 4-hour or less single session, I’d pull Mothership off the shelf and spend as much time deciding which of the great adventures I’d run as I would spend running it.
