I love tabletop games that offer companion apps for mobile devices. However, these apps are not to be used in lieu of playing on the tabletop or required for play. I am not in love with those types of apps. I love an app that makes tabletop games easier. Apps to help me score at the end of a 3-hour Euro-style board game? Yes, please! An app that gives me character creation or even character sheet tracking while I play the RPG? Yes, please!

One of the better examples of this app style is the Mothership Companion app from Tuesday Knight Games. It has character creation, a die roller, inventory management, and status tracking. At the paid level, it has importing and exporting to PDF and one-click character creation. Mothership is a wonderful game, and the app is awesome.
